Welcome to The Baubo Project, a quest to recreate the lost mysteries of feminine creativity and synthesize a new playbook for entrepreneurship.

As women, our innate creativity operates differently.

We have the capability to bring ideas, products, and companies to life in ways truly distinct from the grinding, competitive playbooks peddled by the role models of our time.

Yet the handbook to modern business was written almost entirely by, and for, men.

Only in the last generation have female entrepreneurs begun to share their hard-won lessons.

And when women are asked about the secrets to their success, they get asked the same questions as men.

And then their stories and wisdom are shaped into the typical format, a modern entrepreneurial “hero’s journey”, a linear tale of an individual’s forward motion, a story of vanquishing the competition against the odds.

The Baubo Project asks different questions.

Questions that shine a light on topics currently discussed behind closed doors.

Questions that uncover insights on everything from exponential strategies to create new business models and industries, to powerful permissive mindsets around money and wealth, to practices that foster inspiration and creativity, to the daily rituals that keep us conscious of our true nature and potential.

Questions to ultimately create a new blueprint for entrepreneurship and creativity.

The Baubo Project aims to usher in a new paradigm in entrepreneurship by gathering wisdom from entrepreneurs who have created wealth, innovation, and impact from their feminine as well as their masculine, and synthesizing a new playbook for modern business.

The Process

Phase 1: Gathering

(Fall 2023 - Spring 2024)

We begin with the premise that women, separately and collectively, have intuitively developed beliefs, practices, and processes which, alongside elements from the typical male playbook, have led to their success.

The first phase of the Baubo Project is to gather these insights from 25 of the most interesting, inspiring and successful women entrepreneurs and creators of our time by asking them for their answers to a short list of questions.

Phase 2: Synthesizing

(Summer - Fall 2024)

The second phase will be synthesizing these into a single handbook for women entrepreneurs, drawing out the frameworks for thought and action which emerge.

The format of this handbook will become clear, but there will always be a version of it available digitally for free to ensure maximum accessibility.

Phase 3: Disseminating

(Winter 2024)

After that, our goal is to find the right partners to bring the insights from the project to the largest audience possible.

FAQs

  • This project is envisaged as a great remembering, a joyful quest to reclaim lost elements of women’s creativity and bring them together to create a powerful playbook for modern entrepreneurship.

So much of how women create has been forgotten and one way we can catch glimpses of our true nature is in the myths of earlier civilizations.

Baubo is a Greek goddess and her story embodies the power of surprise, laughter, and play to bring us back to our most powerful and creative selves.

When Persephone is abducted, her mother Demeter, the goddess of fertility and the harvest, is so distraught that the fields of Greece were barren. Baubo decides to appear to Demeter in the guise of an old woman. Out of nowhere, Baubo lifts her skirt and flashes Demeter, who - of course - roars with laughter, the first laughter that’s left her lips since her daughter was taken. This laughter restores Demeter's power and drive, she enlists Zeus to rescue her daughter and resumes her vital role in bringing fertility to the fields of Greece.

Baubo’s role in this story was held as so important in Greek and Roman times, that it was reenacted on one of the days of the Eleusinian Mysteries.

  • Entrepreneurship is the act of creating and executing on wealth-generating strategies that shepherd new ideas, products, and services into being

So for this project, “entrepreneurs” include start-up founders, small business owners, and the tidal wave of solopreneurs creating work on their own terms.

And, as we see it, “entrepreneur” also encompasses most creatives who are now operating as one-person media companies, creating business strategies alongside their art.

  • Each contributor is asked to think about how the story of their entrepreneurial success and share their answers to these questions:

    1. What opportunities and ways of working became possible from building your business from your feminine as well as your masculine?

    2. How did you know what was possible for you?

    3. What mindsets, rituals, or practices made it possible for you to access and stay in your feminine as you grew your work and your impact?

    4. What piece of advice you would share with a woman or femme starting a business or other entrepreneurial quest now that isn’t in the typical entrepreneurial playbook?

    5. What would be possible for the next generation of entrepreneurs and also for our society, our culture and our world, if these ways of doing business were widely adopted?

  • We aspire to launch a digital version of the handbook in Spring 2024, with other media to follow.

  • We assert that both the masculine and feminine resides in us all.

This handbook will be for all women, femmes, and indeed men, who are looking for new ways to bring their ideas into reality outside the corporate system.

As this stage, the project is deliberately not defining feminine creativity but it’s characteristics as don’t want to lead the witness.

The handbook will share definitions and frameworks gleaned from our contributors and extensive supporting research.

  • The Baubo Project arrived fully formed in the mind of Katharine Campbell Hirst in Spring 2023 after she had spent over a decade and a half as a disciple of conscious entrepreneurship.

In her last professional chapter, Katharine started and co-led multiple companies and worked closely with two of the most successful entrepreneurs of our time.

These experiences provided an eye-opening window into both the immense entrepreneurial power of pressing on the masculine accelerator and the deeply painful downsides of this one-sided approach for ourselves as entrepreneurs, for our society, and of course, ultimately for the planet.

Along the way, Katharine asked pretty much every woman entrepreneur she met if a handbook to creating a business in the feminine existed. None had seen it, but all wished they’d had it along the way.

And so recently, when the insight came that Katharine needed to collect these insights from the most inspirational entrepreneurs of our time she began The Baubo Project as a vehicle to reclaim this wisdom and spread the inspiration and permission all women need to create from our true nature.
