      Critics Consensus

An achingly sad anti-war film, Grave of the Fireflies is one of Studio Ghibli's most profoundly beautiful, haunting works.

Sarah B This film has awoken something inside me that I will not no matter how hard I try, to get out of me. This film is not for the faint of heart, an amazing inventive and beautifully written film that deserves a lot more recognition than it gets, it shows the true face of WWII but through an innocent onlookers perspective it go's into great detail on how fear can effect someone's life and how brutal our country (America) is. 100/10 amazing film but be warned, you will never want to watch it again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Anett It was an absolutely heartbreaking beautiful movie. Falling in love with the characters and the bond they shared. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/11/24 Full Review Lukas K Not for the light-hearted as this tragedy will leave you sobbing for days. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review Halie S One of the best films I've ever seen. I'm a big Studio Ghibli fan and have been avoiding this movie because I've heard how sad it is. Finally decided to sit down and watch it and I have absolutely no regrets. Devestatingly sad, but an absolutely wonderful film nontheless Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review Max Y Beyond anything imaginable, this movie portrays the profound sadness that is inevitable as a result of war. From beginning to end, persistent grief is shown. I have not seen a movie/film that presents anything more depressing than this film.
