What is in a name? What is in a logo? When it comes to Kia Motors, the South Korean automaker that has been blowing up the industry lately, knows two things about either. IT NEEDS TO BE BIG AND LOUD. When Kia first released the new generation of the sports car, the Kia K5 (previously named the Kia Optima), they went with death-defying stunt after stunt, including the live performance of the Triple Threat Event . Then, Kia Motors showed a lot of love for the new 2021 Kia Sorento , even going so far as to release it with two new adventurous special editions, the Sorento Yosemite and the Sorento Zion Edition . Now, the automaker has a new logo, and at least this reveal didn’t start any fires.

The video sure is flashy, and it ends with the announcement of a digital stream for the virtual New Kia Brand Showcase on January 15 at 12 am GMT, or 7 pm EST (oh, good!) Kia Motors has been rapidly evolving over the last several years in the industry, and with high goals set with an all-new brand purpose to become a leader in the electric vehicle market within the next few years, the new logo represents Kia’s ambition. In 2019, Kia Motors announced that it would become the next all-electric automaker and quickly followed with its first of two upcoming concepts, the Kia Futuron . A year ago, January 2020, Kia Motors then announced the Plan S Strategy . The plan is simple – produce 11 EVs by 2025, hold 25% of all sales from eco-friendly vehicles by the end of 2025, and sell 500,000 EVs worldwide and 1 million eco-friendly vehicles by 2026.

Easy, right? That’s what we say when we talk about the ambition of Kia Motors. It’s a lot to chew through over the next few years, but if any automaker has shown an ability to reinvent itself, then it’s definitely Kia. We saw that with the release of the Kia Stinger , the first true sports car to come from the automaker that not only changed the way consumers look at Kia models, but the style of Kia Motors forever. The swept-back roof look still perpetuates in models years later, the new Kia Sorento included. With this new look and industry-defining objectives in sight, Kia Motors finishes its transformation with a new logo.

“Kia’s new logo represents the company’s commitment to becoming an icon for change and innovation…The automotive industry is experiencing a period of rapid transformation, and Kia is proactively shaping and adapting to these changes. Our new logo represents our desire to inspire customers as their mobility needs evolve, and for our employees to rise to the challenges we face in a fast-changing industry.” – Ho Sung Song, Kia’s President and CEO

Although not at the forefront of Plan S, the strategy for is actually a two-track strategy. Electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) are of course at the forefront, with the great success Kia Motors has already had in these ventures. A new type of mobility is also gaining traction in the industry, and for that, Kia will require the aid of its parent umbrella automotive group, Hyundai Motors. With plans to change the world of mobility, HMG and Kia are already talking Purpose-Built Vehicle production, or vehicles built for more than simple transportation. Just like we have modified carrier trucks for making deliveries, we’ll soon have the same for food delivery, shopping, mobile diners, and even recreational activities that come to you! It’s going to be like the _ Fifth Element _ , but without the flying cars.
