The project "XIAN - Myths of the Beauties" was inspired by the Four Great Beauties of ancient China who changed the history of the four different dynasties in ancient times: Diao Chan, Yang Guifei, Wang Zhaojun, and Xishi. These Four Great Beauties were renowned for their unparalleled beauty which they used to exercise influence over kings[...]
The project "XIAN - Myths of the Beauties" was inspired by the Four Great Beauties of ancient China who changed the history of the four different dynasties in ancient times: Diao Chan, Yang Guifei, Wang Zhaojun, and Xishi. These Four Great Beauties were renowned for their unparalleled beauty which they used to exercise influence over kings and warriors.
This photograph depicts the beauty of Yang Guifei (AD 713-756) whose beauty brought down a dynasty. Guifei was said to have “a face that would shame any flower.” Her loveliness was such that she is known up to the present day as one of the Four Beauties, women from ancient China legendary for their looks and the influence they exerted over emperors and kings who have fallen for their charms.
