I found some 20 year old MiniDV tapes and my Samsung SCD103 camcorder with firmware download port. This card installed into an HP Windowx 10 PC with no problems and no need to download drivers. Used Amcap software, with Type-1 firmware download to retrieve video -- which is free to use with 15 minute limit for clips. On thing to be careful with is to make sure you understand Capture versus Record in software, as the Record button means Record camera video and over write the tape. Capture shows video on tape and copies it on to computer hard drive. A Cap a little buggy but works, requires restart of software often, as it drops connection to camera.

I am running Windows 11 and installed this firewire card with no issues. Windows 11 has the driver included, no need to hunt down a driver. My issue was when I used the included firewire 400 cable. This cable did not work at all. I read other reviews with people having the same problem and thought must have been a bad batch or something but honestly it seems the cable is just not good to use. I am using this card with an old Canopus ADVC-100 and I thought my old hardware was the issue since I was running Windows 11. I happened to find an old firewire 400 cable and tried it. To my pleasant surprise it worked fine and Adobe Premier Pro said my device was online.

So if you are looking for a PCIe firewire card with 400 ports and you want to use Windows 11 or previous this card will work great. Just buy yourself a decent 400 firewire cable.

Unable to download video from Sony TRV17

I was not pleased with the 2- foot cable, I had to lay on the floor with my camera in order to connect and use. No documentation came with the box/card. The box was labeled wrong also it said a PCI card not IEEE 1394 Controller card. The install was easy, no issues with that. My ASUS Z170A MB (2016 build), and Windows 10 PRO sees the card in Hardware Manager, as well as the Camera when I turn the camera power ON. When I open Adobe Premier (2021 Version), it does not see the Camera. Neither does my other software from MS. The drivers I used were both the driver that came with the card, and I tried Legacy Driver, no go with either. When a company says that their card works with Windows 10, then they had damn well better be sure by checking that themselves in their lab, don't make blank statement to sell a product. I am returning the card to Amazon and trying a LinksTek card. Hopefully this card will do as it says.

Saved me big bucks for DIY video to digital transfer

Wanted to transfer about 15 MiniDV tapes from an old Sony DV handycam to digital to preserve the family memories spanning the past 22 years. A video transfer service wanted hundreds of $$$ to do the job I knew with time and a capable home computer, I could pretty easily do this myself.

PC/laptops these days no longer have FireWire 400 ports, so this PCI express card was exactly what I needed. If your desktop PC has a spare PCI express port, this card will work for you. It installed quickly and easily (if you know your way around the interior of your desktop PC) and worked immediately after powering up.

Just know that transferring video to digital file is a long manual process depending on how much video you have recorded. It also requires the right software application to process the video, but this can be found free and easily with a Google search. It's not a drag and drop operation. One must play the video in real time while the computer captures the footage to the hard drive. To make it easier, I would run the job before bed or if done during the day, start it and walk away for a while. The process took about a week with the amount of miniDV tapes I have.
