Toyota Vietnam has new president

Keita Nakano has been named Toyota Motor Vietnam president, succeeding Hiroyuki Ueda, the Japanese carmaker announced Friday.

Nakano, born in 1967, has been holding managerial positions at Toyota Motor Corporation since 1990, most recently at the giant's operation management and sales department.

Toyota was the best-selling car brand in Vietnam in 2022 with 92,625 units, up 34% year-on-year, accumulating to 857,051 units so far. The 2022 figure included 1,510 Lexus cars. Lexus is Toyota's high-end brand.

Toyota Vietnam made 36,602 cars last year, up 20% year-on-year, putting its total supply as of the end of the year at 660,702 units.

Twelve out of 58 Toyota Vietnam vendors are Vietnamese firms. Almost 1,000 items supplied to the producers are made in the country.

Vios, a five-seater sedan; Corolla Cross, an SUV; and Veloz, a multi-purpose vehicle, have been the best-selling vehicles of Toyota in Vietnam, featuring in the top ten of most sold vehicles in the country.

Toyota Vietnam contributed $1.25 billion to Vietnam's state budget last year, up 25% year-on-year.
