After matchday 28 of last season, Napoli were sixteen points clear at the top of the Serie A table.

The Partenopei in fact ended the season with that margin of victory over Lazio. They had stretched their lead out to as much as nineteen points, but took their foot off the gas a bit during the final run-in when the title was already secured.

Going into matchday 28 this time around, Inter have an advantage nearly as emphatic.

The Nerazzurri are fifteen points clear of Juventus.

Napoli had been in 71 points compared to Lazio’s 55 last season. Inter have reached 72, whilst Juventus are on 57 currently.

Inter Milan Keeping Same Dominant Pace As Napoli Last Season

Last season at this stage, there was a sense that Napoli were already champions of Serie A all but officially.

Of course, nothing is over until it’s over. But the Partenopei’s advantage twelve months ago looked insurmountable.

The same is now true of Inter this season.

Just a few weeks ago, the Nerazzurri have been virtually neck-and-neck with Juventus.

But a sequence of nine wins in the league along with a number of stumbles by the Bianconeri has allowed Inter to widen the gap.

Now the question is whether Inter will drop off at all in the last three months of the season.

The Nerazzurri can afford to. They can save some energy and rest key players for the Champions League.

Last campaign, Napoli ended the season with a points tally of ninety.

Nothing to scoff at, but not quite what the Partenopei had been on pace for through much of the season.

Inter will certainly be feeling that they can do better this time around.
