UEB’s Lecturers teach at Pusan National University, continues to expand “exchange map” in Korea

As one of the “flagships” to actively promote the internationalization of educational activities at the University of Economics and Business (UEB) at Vietnam National University (VNU), it offers a global learning and teaching environment. In order to engage in teaching undergraduate and graduate students in December 2022, the Department of Development Economics will continue to send a delegation of lecturers to the Pusan National University – Korea (PNU). In addition to providing UEB lecturers with the chance to demonstrate their ability to teach in other countries and their qualifications, this also creates the possibility of future collaboration, research, and students and lecturers exchange between two universities.


The delegation of the Faculty of Development Economics, University of Economics and Business during included: Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen An Thinh (Dean of Faculty), Dr. Nguyen Dinh Tien (Head of Department of Economics of Natural Resources and Real Estate), Dr. Dong Manh Cuong (lecturer of the Department of Statistics and Research Methods). Modules taught by UEB lecturers at Pusan National University, Korea "Economics of Climate Change" (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen An Thinh); "Green Growth Policy" (Dr. Nguyen Dinh Tien); "Advanced Econometrics" (Dr. Dong Manh Cuong).

Pusan National University (found in 1946) is among the top public universities in Korea, with the largest number of international students compared to public schools in the same system. The leading school in training fields with the highest employment rate in Korea after graduation is Engineering – Information Technology – Business Administration. The partnership with Busan National University offers UEB students and Department members a fantastic opportunity to study abroad and exchange ideas at one of Asia’s top educational hubs while also boosting the university’s standing and increasing its international network of premier universities.

The two institutions, UEB and PNU, collaborated on the following three projects in 2022: (1) Became a co-organizer of the Vietnam-Korea Economic and Trade Forum (VIKOEF 2022) at the University of Economics and Business, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; (2) Put three cooperation projects funded by Pusan National University's science and technology fund into action; and (3) Cooperated in the exchange of lecturers and students between the two institutions of higher learning.

This educational activity is also a part of the "International Lecture Series" series that the Department of Development Economics (UEB - FDE) frequently organizes with the intention of fostering global teaching collaboration and improving learning environments for students. At top universities across the world, professors and lecturers have access to an international environment.

The Department of Development Economics began holding its "International Lecture Series" series of events in 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the original intention of inviting foreign and Vietnamese professors to teach on the online platform so that Vietnamese and foreign students could study together. UEB - FDE has so far planned 20 teaching sessions, increasing it by inviting foreign academics to provide classes directly in Vietnam and inviting Vietnamese lecturers to give classes overseas (deployed in Poland, Korea and Thailand).

In addition, on January 10, 2023, Professor Lee Keun-Jae, Dean of the Department of Economics at Pusan National University, paid a direct visit to the University of Economics and Business at VNU to discuss upcoming cooperative activities. He also presented certificates of cooperation to UEB lecturers in recognition of their participation in a series of lectures in Korea at the same time.

In a conversation with Prof. Lee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu, Vice Principal of the University of Economics and Business at the Vietnamese National University, along with department members from the Department of Development Economics, expressed the hope that UEB and PNU will soon have a close working relationship that will grow in the areas of education, research, and student exchange.

It is anticipated that "the land of Kimchi" will welcome a group of students from the Department of Development Economics, UEB-VNU, in July and August 2023 to the Department of Economics-Pusan National University to learn, explore, attend lectures on economics and Korean studies, and conduct three research projects on economic relations and investment between Vietnam and Korea.

In order to assist students to study and get oriented to meet the requirements of worldwide integration in the face of the diversified and competitive labor market of today, the University of Economics and Business – Vietnam National University uses international collaboration as a major driving force in training and scientific research.
