The Kaleidoscope Story

We have chosen the symbol of the Kaleidoscope to represent the work we do with people. The kaleidoscope contains mirrors, pieces of coloured glass, and other shapes, whose reflections produce changing patterns when the kaleidoscope is rotated by the viewer.

For us, the kaleidoscope symbolises ever changing and endless possibilities contained in the human experience. Like the kaleidoscope, each one of us has unique patterns and characteristics. In different lights or environments these patterns change and are revealed. The colours and shapes generated within the instrument itself could be thought of as personalities, thoughts, memories, and ideas. As we turn the kaleidoscope or interact with each other, the images dance into new patterns, and we find different types of beauty and contrast.

The turns of the kaleidoscope could therefore represent crucial events, life changes, or minor disturbances: or it could represent changing perspectives, new meaning, diversity, or creativity.

What we do

In therapy we gently explore with people their inner world: the shape and patterns of their emotional landscape and the way this interacts with the outside world. During the therapy it is as if we too are looking through the eye piece of the kaleidoscope and sharing for a time, as much as one can, what we can see in the unique patterns and shapes of the lived experience for those who we work with.

Hence, as a metaphor for life and therapy, with each turn we experience a change in the settings of our lives, we adapt, and we live with the changes as we adjust our view to the new pattern of life set before us.

Therapy could be seen as a new light source, or a change of the viewer, or like the reflective surfaces of the mirrors, which enables new meaning to be made of life or internal experiences.
